Get Organized: 5 tips to better organize your closet.

Have a messy closet? Well, this blog post is here to help! Organizing can be a long process, deciding what to keep and what not to keep. So, I have put together some of the best tips that I have used to clean out, organize and keep my closet clean. (Photos via Hungeling Design)

Step One: Designate a "pile" section of the room, and clear out the closet. Wether its your bed or an empty corner, place all the objects in your closet within that area. It's super important to have the closet cleared, so that you can start with a fresh slate. This is a long process, so take your time.

Step Two: Organize the items that you took out of the closet into specific bins or piles. If using bins, make sure to label them so you don't get confused or mixed up. Start with a keep, toss and donate bin. Also while your in the sorting process, make sure to gather any non clothing items and either find a place to put them or place them in the donation bin/pile. If you want to keep the item, place it in a bin so that it doesn't get lost during the organizing process.

Step Three: Eliminate the items that don't belong in that closet. One of the biggest causes of home clutter and disorganization is the mis placement of items throughout the home. If you have a pantry, that should be only kitchen/cooking items. If you have a laundry room closet, it should be used for linens and towels, it makes your home function and feel different. But, don't get to overwhelmed and try to do several closets within the house at the same time, remember which closet your working on and stick with that closet. Don't try to organize several rooms at once.

Step Four: Remove unwanted items from your organized bins. If your not sure where to start or what to get rid of, ask yourself these few questions. Have I worn this shirt in the last year? Does this jacket still fit? Do I really need four shirts that look alike? The answer will most likely be no. Now just because your taking it out of your closet, that doesn't mean that you have to donate it. You can use several online shopping platforms to list your cloths for sale.

Step Five: Take time and clean the closet. Now that your closet is empty, its the perfect time to wash the baseboard and thoroughly vacuum the floor. This is one of the most important steps, so that you can place all of your cloths back into a clean, dust free closet.

Where can I find organization bins? As always, Homegoods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls have quite a big section of containers to organize every room of your home. If your looking for an online options The Container Store is such a wonderful place to find practical and useful items to organize your home. I hope you found this blog post helpful, and I hope to see you back here real soon.
